Alternative to Soda

Lately, I have to admit , I've been on a bit of a soda kick. Since I went to Europe last fall, I started ordering a coke zero at a restaurant ( it tastes better there for some reason). Unfortunately, I brought the addiction over to the states. It also doesn't help that Kevin is the SODA KING and legit buys 8 liters of it every time we go to Publix.

Even though it is nice to enjoy a cold, refreshing soda from time to time, it is never very good for your health. It can cause weight gain, slow down your metabolism, dehydrates the body and even causes plaque in the teeth. Don't even get me started on all the chemicals. This is what I've been trying to incorporate as an alternative to soda when I get that craving for a it, and would like to share it here with you all today.

1. Zevia- You can find this at Whole Foods or Amazon. This is a great alternative because it makes you believe you are drinking soda since its in a can and also is sparkling. It has no artificial sweeteners and is a great alternative to soda since it's almost like the real thing.

2. Iced Coffee - The good thing about this is you can find it anywhere. So if you get a craving while your out and about just stop in the closest Starbucks and your golden.  If you like soda  because of the pick me up, the caffeine in coffee will be sure to do the same. Just don't add any creamer or milk for a zero calorie drink.

3. Kombucha-  Known as the “Immortal Health Elixir” by the Chinese and originating in the Far East around 2,000 years ago, kombucha is a beverage with tremendous health benefits extending to your heart, your brain and (especially) your gut. It does contain a couple calories (about 60 calories depending on brand) and 14 grams of carbs but the health benefits make up for that. Plus "this is a lifestyle not a diet" so you need to make wise decisions that benefit your health more so than your weight.

4. La Croix- I can't say enough good things about this water. A client of mine gave me one to try and I've been hooked ever since. It is a sparkling water with natural flavors. The fizzy water is just so delicious and completely takes my thirst and cravings away. My favorite flavor is Cran-Rasberry and  I honestly can't say enough great things about this water!
