Making Time for Fitness

Going to the gym is something that a lot of us put off. Whether it’s a nail appointment, a teacher/parent night at school, your boss has you staying late at work, running errands, or you’re just plain old “too tired to get to the gym.”

I’m not here to scold you and tell you that if there’s a want there’s a will or if you try hard enough you will find time like every fitness person on Instagram does.I get that the gym is not a priority for everyone and a lot of you may not even like it. I also understand that sometimes life just happens and there is nothing you can do about it. (I mean, as I’m writing this I have a heat pad on my back and had to skip the last 2 days of going to the gym).

As I’ve said before, you don’t necessarily need to go to the gym in order to be fit. You can workout almost anywhere. Sometimes, fitness doesn’t even have to be about beauty or aesthetics but instead its about your health. What I WILL tell you is that once you make it a part of your routine, it starts becoming a part of you. Kind of like brushing your teeth in the morning; you don’t even have to think twice, you just do it. Well fitness is the same way.

As a trainer, I know that there are different goals that my clients want to achieve out of their training. Some want to change their physique, others just want to improve their health and there’s the occasional one that is forced by their spouse (haha). Whatever the case may be, I always try to cater to my clients’ needs and I’ve yet to find one that doesn’t get hooked on it. It is all about finding what you like and sticking with it. There is a style of training out there for everyone. I’ve got hardcore fitness clients to never step foot  into the gym. My goal is to allow them to enjoy themselves while getting in a killer workout.

Here are some my suggestions to make time for fitness:

Stop feeling sorry for yourself

  •   Everyone is busy and has something going on in their life even if they don’t express it. However, if you’re constantly telling yourself ‘poor me ” with all the workload you have, or complain that you don’t have anyone to help you, well that is just not healthy! Instead, change your mindset to “Look at all that I’ve accomplished and I’m still going to get my butt to the gym because I AM  SUPERWOMAN”

    Limit time using electronics

  •     Sometimes we tell ourselves we are way too busy to workout but we don’t even realize all the wasted time we spend in front of our phones, computers or TV.

    Workout during commercials

  • Make it into a game with your family. Every time a commercial comes on, see who can do the most push-ups, squats, mountain climbers, jumping jacks, lunges, etc.

Take the stairs

  • If you’re a workaholic and spend most of your time at the office, then start doing small changes to your lifestyle. Also parking farther is a great way to start bringing fitness into your life.

    Dance

  • Just turn on the music really loud and dance! You can do this anywhere. “My personal favorite pop-star to jam to will always be Britney!

    Money as an incentive

  • It makes sense why investing your money can motivate you to do the workout. There’s also apps where you can bribe yourself. If you don’t hit the goal, the app takes money from you, or you could make a bet with a friend! OR hire a personal trainer. I offer online services that are extremely affordable and cater to your needs and schedule. You can find it here

Join a fitness challenge with a friend

  • I find that it is extremely motivating to workout with someone else. You both will push each other. Say one more fun sentence here so it’s not so short. Something like “Some friendly competition never hurt anybody!

    Wake up earlier

  • It's no secret that I’m an early bird and love working out at the break of dawn. There is just a burst of energy that you feel all throughout the day after a workout. It is also the best way to make sure you  get it in before your afternoon complicates everything.

    Workout at work

  • If you seen the new bike desk? Or this treadmill desk? Technology I tell ya.  It is so convenient to be able to do 2 things at one time. Plus, research has said that it actually makes people more productive to be working out while working.

Are you going to give any of these suggestions a try? I would love to hear from you! I read every single comment and message that comes my way and offer advice to anyone who asks. Also, if you do try any of these suggestions, or if you have some of your own please share in the comments below!
