My Best Tips for Goal Setting

These days, I love setting goals. However, I haven’t always been this way.  . Back when I was in high school, I was more focused on the cute boy on the basketball team or spending time with my friends than I was focused on my future. Oh the good ‘ol days lol.

It wasn’t until my 2nd year of college that I actually began setting goals. At first, I would set these huge goals of being the next Giuliana Rancic on E! News or winning a Pulitzer prize. (I studied Journalism for those that didn’t know). There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with setting big  goals for yourself but in order to reach that BIG one you need to start by making smaller ones. Plus, look at how funny the world is: I realized I did not like journalism and that being Giuliana Rancic was going to be way harder than I imagined. I actually don’t think she’s replaceable.

Once I realized journalism was not for me (after I got my degree and minored in communications) I shifted my goals in life. I wanted to build a fitness empire. I wanted to build a community of women who have the same values and goals and support each other, I wanted to create my own clothing line, and a supplement line made especially for success-driven women.. I shifted my muse from Giuliana Rancic to  Jillian Michaels (just a much softer version haha). But, in order to reached that level, I began to set small goals for myself that were much more attainable for the moment and kept my motivation and momentum going.

Here are my Top Tips for Goal Setting:

  1. Be specific: Visualize the details. Think about where it should happen, when it should happen, what you want to accomplish, and what you need to get there. Also ask yourself why you want to achieve the goal.

  2. Set small, attainable goals: Yes you have that end goal in mind but before you can reach it, set smaller ones that can eventually get you to your BIG one.

  3. Be realistic: Don’t set a goal that you know you’ll never be able to achieve. If your 5’5” don’t think you’ll miraculously grow to be 5’9”. That just doesn’t happen lol.

  4. Set timelines: This one is my favorite. I actually love setting deadlines for myself because it brings out my competitive side and I want to prove to myself I can do it within a certain time frame.

  5. Take action: It’s one thing to say your going to do something, but to actually DO It?Now  that’s where it’s at. Don’t just write down your goals in your planner and think that things will just jump into your lap (that would be so awesome though) you've actually got to work for it.

Now go out there and get it done, girl!!

I believe in you,
