I may not be an avid lover of running but that doesn’t mean that I can’t appreciate a good workout. Yesterday, I saw someone post about separatism in the fitness industry and I couldn’t agree more. Honestly, who cares if you like to run or maybe you’d rather lift heavy or maybe you wanna use bands! The point is that you're doing something to move your body. Yes, each of these things will get you different results depending on your goals but if all you want to do is get fit and healthy then do what your heart desires!

I was the girl who would run 5ks every weekend and several 1/2 marathons but that wasn’t really my passion and I wasn’t content with the way my body looked. I wanted to look stronger. My father, on the other hand, loves his running. He can’t live a day without out. I’m more of a weights girl. Now, this doesn’t mean that I don’t run here and there because I might want to lean out or just for the hell of it. The one time a year, I run without question is for our Annual Turkey Trot…its kind of a family tradition.

The good thing about running is all of the benefits it has. Not only health-wise but your mood as well. I know that every time I finished a long run, I felt so good. I was hating myself while I was running but after my mood was lifted. Needless to say, I wasn’t the only one. Have you heard of a runner’s high? Running does tend to lift your moods. So the next time you get into a fight with your significant other or you had a bad day at work then throw on some sneakers and hit the asphalt.

5 Reasons Why Running Lifts Your Mood:

  1. Reduces stress

  2. Releases endorphins, the feel good hormone

  3. A feeling of accomplishment once you're done

  4. Reduces anxiety

  5. Healthier eating decisions
