Hormonal Health

Statistics show that 80 percent of women suffer from hormonal imbalance. Some women live with these imbalances without even realizing it; in fact, 70 percent are unaware of conditions like PCOS that may have manifested due to hormonal irregularities.

What are Hormones?

Hormones are chemical messengers, produced in the endocrine glands, that play a crucial role in regulating your metabolism, appetite, stress response, emotions, mood, immune system, reproduction and so much more. Each hormone has its own job in your body.  Think of them as a band, they must all play together and complement each other in order to be in sync (or rather N’sync). When you have too much or too little of a certain hormone, it causes an imbalance.

What Causes Hormone Imbalance?

There are many factors that contribute to hormonal imbalances, the major one being stress. Now when people think about stress they automatically think of environmental stress; work, family, and life. This is a major cause of it but many women don’t consider the stress on the body from working out and under-eating.

In today’s world, women have been taught that to have a successful workout you must feel out of breath and get completely sweaty. That is great and all but overdoing it is where the problem starts. Then add in the low calories, no carbs, and restricting diet and it's a recipe for a hot mess.  Other reasons are issues with thyroid, eating disorders, medications, and lifestyle.

There are many types of hormonal imbalances but the most common are

  • Low progesterone

  • Estrogen Dominance

  • High Cortisol

  • Infertility

  • Hypothyroidism

  • PCOS

Symptoms of hormonal Imbalance?

This is the tricky part because many symptoms of one condition can be the symptom of another. For this reason, I like to dig deeper and run lab work for my clients.

Some symptoms are:

  • Irregular Periods

  • Heavy Periods

  • Weight Gain

  • Fatigue

  • Increased Belly Fat

  • Hair Loss

  • Anxiety or Depression

  • Bloating

Keep in mind that these symptoms are nonspecific, and having them doesn’t necessarily mean that you have a hormonal imbalance but you should look further into it.

How can we treat them?

The conventional medical approach is to put a band-aid on the problem by prescribing a pill. However, this is not always the correct answer. While modern medicine has come a long way and is very useful, it is NOT the ONLY way. With natural supplementation, the correct training protocol, and eating the right foods, you can solve many of these issues.
