In life, we have many relationships. The one with our parents, our kids, our significant other, our friends, and the GYM. However, the gym might be more of a love/hate relationship in that we love it one minute and the other we can’t stand its guts…oh wait I guess that’s every relationship…I’m kidding!!!!

We have moments where we absolutely love the gym, have all the energy in the world to wake up at the crack of dawn to pump some iron, but the other we don’t even want to have to think about walking one more minute on the hamster wheel (aka treadmill).

We have all been there! I have had my moments. It can hard be hard when there is no motivation to exercise. Yes, lack of motivation is probably the #1 reason people hate the gym. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, motivation won’t get you to the gym but discipline does. When you wake up in the morning, you usually aren’t very excited to go to work right? But what gets you there? Your discipline and knowing that it’s your responsibilities, if not who is paying for that Nordstrom bill?

Now, I don’t want you to look at the gym as a dreadful job, but you do have to realize that if you want to be healthy, you want to fit in your clothes, you want to feel stronger and confident, the way to get that is by going to the gym. Just like the way to pay your bill is by working. Are you getting the picture?

I do fasted cardio 4x a week and I have days where its impossible to get up. So want to know what I do? I start a series that I really enjoy but I don’t let myself watch it unless I am doing cardio. Guess what? I am a lot more eager to get up and put on my sneakers when I want to find out about Mia & Elena’s turmoil relationship (I’m watching Little Fires Everywhere at the moment ;)

We also need to give permission to ourselves to be ok with self-care.  For many years, the world viewed self-care and well-being as unimportant. Work, family, school, your dogs were always prioritized if not you were viewed as selfish.  However, the reality is in order to give your all to everything you care you need to take care of yourself first.  Once you realize the day-to-day effects exercise has on your mood, happiness, and overall ability to get things done, it will be easier to give yourself the permission to always find time for a quick sweat session.
