If you’re thinking of joining a gym and investing in yourself, that is amazing. It’s a huge step and you want to make sure that you’re getting your money’s worth. More importantly, you want to make sure that this gym motivates you even the days that you have none. I’ve gathered up a couple of questions that I’ve learned over the years that can really make your gym experience a pleasant one.

  1. Is there a contract you have to sign? Usually, there isn’t but in the case there was, you really want to be careful what you sign. 99% of the gyms do not require you to sign a contract which is honestly the way to go.

  2. How much does it cost? What’s the price? Is it monthly? Yearly? Weekly?

  3. What does my membership include? Sometimes gym memberships include a special surprise that most members don’t even know about.

  4. Are you able to use all the amenities? There are some gyms that only allow you to use certain things according to what membership level you have. It’s all BS if you ask me.

  5. Are allowed to bring a guest? I am not a huge fan of Youfit but I do like the fact that they allow you to bring a guest. Of course you have to pay more for that option but nonetheless, it isn’t an absurd amount.

  6. How close is it to home or work? Really analyze if this gym is feasible for you. It might be the “in” gym at the moment but if you have to drive an hour every day in traffic, are you really going to do it? This can play a huge factor when your debating whether or not to hit the gym one day.

  7. Does the gym offer group classes? Gyms like Planet Fitness and Youfit do not offer group classes, so it is important to find out if this is something you’re interested in. Also, if you’re just going to be going to group classes, you may want to consider joining somewhere like F45 that has great workout programs and you’re guaranteed results. You can check here for your local F45.

  8. What’s the cancellation policy? Even though you shouldn’t be thinking about quitting, there are situations that arise like a move or you find another gym, etc. 95% of the gyms require you go in person to cancel. Why? Because you’re more likely to not go so you’ll keep paying even though you won’t go.

  9. Reputation. You may want to ask around and see if the gym is a meat market or is filled with friendly people ready to work like you.

  10. Are you healthy enough to exercise? Before starting any exercise program it is always good to get the “ok” from your doc.
